If Tervahäät’s self-titled debut were a soundtrack, it would be the soundtrack to an old cabin life nestled in the solitude of the wilderness. It would accompany the lonely glow of a campfire beside a thousand Saivo lakes. It would echo through an arctic pilgrimage across the vast plains of the endless north. Tervahäät IS the soundtrack of the wild within us—the longing to become one with nature and to be reborn in the purity of its primitive grace. Bound to the earth, drifting with the wind, flaring with the fire, and roaming with the water.
The Finns honored the bear by eating its flesh, thus absorbing its power, while the bones were carefully buried. This is not far from the way Tervahäät channels their thoughts through magical tunes, reflecting the spirits of their dead ancestors and venerating the great Finnish men of old. Spin the LP and look up to the stars.
