The second Orplid album

On their second album, Orplid convey the simple impressions and emotions of nature with plucked and wailing electric guitar, creating a psychological and bombastic sound-painting, rife with classical and religious thought. Once more, there are influences drawn from the local poetic tradition, from German literature and Friedrich Schiller's poetry ("Das Mädchen aus der Fremde"), works reflecting hope, deceit, and all the polarities of the human soul.

Orplid's martial fourth album

Two and a half years after "Sterbender Satyr", Orplid are back with their fourth studio album "Greifenherz". In contrast to their previous outing, this album is filled with pathos, a belligerent and archaic piece of work. "Greifenherz" is informed with a surprisingly hostile and cold atmosphere - a partially menacing and martial sound Orplid haven't applied since some of the more violent outbursts of their early works.

The third album by Germany's foremost Neofolk group

Orplid's "Sterbender Satyr" is as successful a mosaic of language, music, and representing images, as were their earlier releases. Apart from almost purely acoustic, mostly guitar-based songs, however, their new release sees Frank Machau and Uwe Nolte increasingly aiming for more ethereal soundscapes. "Sterbender Satyr" underlines a development that was already apparent in its predecessor, "Nächtliche Juenger" (2003): Orplid are not a pure (Neo) Folk band, even if their early releases might have made that impression. The two musicians are rather constantly working on their unique settings of Uwe's "New German Poetry": lyrical, fragile, and sensitive, but powerful in expression and interpretation.

Orplid are the epitome of German Neofolk. Named after the crusaders' motto "Deus Vult", their 7th full-length album is a 72-minutes mission statement expressing the duo's readiness to safeguard western civilization and its tradition.

Uwe Nolte (lyrics, concept, vocals) and Frank Machau (composition, instruments, vocals) started Orplid in Halle/Saale, Germany, in 1996 and quickly became the epitome of German Neofolk. Thematically, the project has remained open while playing music that only few can match in terms of diversity. For them, neofolk rather means an innovative state of mind than a musical genre. They took more than ten years time for the successor of "Greifenherz" (2008), yet the wait was warranted.

The duo's new album "Deus Vult" is Nolte’s and Machau’s ultimate mission statement. Summarized by the crusaders' motto "God wills it", the songs express Orplid's readiness "to safeguard western civilization and its tradition," as Nolte says.

Fighting and dying for a cause is a prominent motif on the duo's seventh full-length. Inspired by tragic lives throughout history regardless of origin or ideology, Nolte wrote poems about Czech student Jan Palach, communist revolutionary Tamara Bunke or Protestant pastor and physician Kurt Reuber, the painter of the famous Stalingrad Madonna during World War II.

Orplid invited Katrin Lindner, a rock icon in the former German Democratic Republic, to sing on 'Dunkle Stunde', and offer a host of stylistic elements from neoclassical pomp across pulsing electronics to an almost gothic reinterpretation of their own classic 'Das Abendland' while their cover of Neil Young's 1975 masterpiece 'Cortez The Killer' happens to encapsulate their intent: "It's about greed and what happens if we forget what is inherent in us", Nolte concludes. "The present time suffers from alienation - and we are the antidote!"

"Deus Vult" is available as a hardcover CD book (18x18cm, 60 pages) and on vinyl - exclusively as part of the 12LP box set "Legatum".

Orplid’s complete works in a lush 12LP box set

"Legatum" (Latin: "Legacy") is the title of a massive wooden box set with 12 LPs including Orplid’s entire discography, with the majority of works released on vinyl for the first time ever. It contains all of the group's five studio albums, including their new work "Deus Vult", and all EPs, alongside 16(!) additional tracks, partly rare (compilation contributions, bonus tracks), partly unreleased.

In addition to wholly reworked artworks and classy uniform layouts, the LPs come in padded inner sleeves and get accompanied by a 84-page book (30x30cm) with all lyrics, illustrations by Uwe Nolte and an Orplid artist photo gallery. Furthermore, "Legatum" features three prints with art by Uwe Nolte, a certificate of authenticity, hand-signed and numbered by Orplid themselves, as well as a branding on the lid.

"Legatum" is limited to 500 copies worldwide.
