Two years after the release of "Ayam", the fourth DISILLUSION full-length will have spun on record and CD players, and also been streamed countless times. Every melody, rhythm pattern, and note will have been listened to again and again. And yet, there are still many musical 'secrets' waiting to be uncovered and treasures to be found. With "Ayam (Instrumental)", DISILLUSION offer their most dedicated followers a beautiful map to find some of the hidden gems. Without the magnificent vocals, other aspects of the songs begin to shine, and new aspects of each track come to the fore. Nothing has been added to the original songs, only the vocals have been taken out of "Ayam". At the time of the album's creation, DISILLUSION were entirely focused on the band and on composing new songs as the pandemic prevented all live activities and also restricted private activities. The effect is audible: "Ayam" sounds richer, even more multi-layered, and fully matured compared to the already highly praised previous releases. Yet the intricacies of the German avant-gardists' music are never just a means to an end, but more than anything all the complexity is subjugated to serve the inner feeling and cinematic aspect of each song itself. While DISILLUSION stuck closer together, they were also searching their hearts whether it was time to change old habits and try out something new. This led to the excellent decision to leave the mix of the album to different ears than the bands' for the first time. Their choice could not have been better as renowned producer Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, MOONSPELL) once again worked his exciting magic and enhanced their already unique sound by shining a sonic spotlight to the most important aspects such as the vocals. Founded around singer and guitarist Andy Schmidt in the East Germany city of Zwickau in 1994, DISILLUSION pulled the rare trick of already becoming a staple in the field of avant-garde melodic death metal with the release of their full-length debut "Back to Times of Splendor" in 2004. The Germans have always been driven to seek new challenges and find new ways to evolve their music, which was exemplified by the following album "Gloria" that took radical musical steps in several directions at the same time. When "The Liberation" was released in 2019, critics described the album as a logical continuation of "Back to Times of Splendor". Its songs reflected 15 years of additional experience in the musical development of Andy Schmidt. "The Liberation" turbo-charged all of DISILLUSION's best qualities: the perfect interplay of massive metal with moments of pure euphoria and quiet introspection that create a sonic rollercoaster ride of passionate emotions. With "Ayam", DISILLUSION again sail among the stars to new stellar constellations of heavy sounds. While staying true to their general course, the German avant-garde pioneers also continue dropping anchor to explore new planets sparkling in space with a multitude of radiant sounds. While Disillusion's "Back To Times Of Splendor" was an instant classic of progressive melodic death upon its release in 2004, the group from Leipzig, Germany pushed the envelope even farther two years later with the rigorously innovative "Gloria". Yet it’s fair to say that the most glorious years for "one of the best kept secrets to come from the metal underground" (Blabbermouth) are yet to come.

In 2016, their first new recording in a decade, the single "Alea", came out to test the waters in the wake of successful concerts with a refurbished line-up. Disillusion suddenly found themselves graced with an incredibly loyal fan base that made the band give in to the urge of approaching their first full-length in ten years. In the course of a crowdfunding campaign, initiated with the hope of supporting the creation of that album, the dream of every niche artist became true; Its overwhelming success enabled main-man Andy Schmidt to invest almost two years, full-time, into writing and recording a new Disillusion record without having to take on a day job for sustenance. The fact that fan-financing is the foundation for this work cannot be valued highly enough.

"The Liberation" is the result of the Herculean creative task to which Andy Schmidt applied himself; spending countless hours of songwriting and recording. It comes 13 years after "Gloria" but stands with its genuinely enthusiastic, passionate and driven prog metal as the logical stylistic and lyrical successor to "Back To Times Of Splendor" – but with 15 years of additional life experience on the part of its creator. As an expression of clearance in the literal sense of its title, it is testament to human development. An interplay of fierce metal with moments of both pure euphoria and introspection, the songs take you on the proverbial roller coaster of emotions that you’ve missed – perhaps since Opeth's "Watershed."

Disillusion in 2019 resembles the storm you feel brewing over an epic such as 'Wintertide', the straight-in-your-face stunner 'The Great Unknown', or the unexpectedly catchy and hookline-laden 'Time To Let Go', which - quite naturally - turned out to be exactly what fans have been craving for so long.

"The Liberation" was mastered by Jens Bogren (In Flames, etc.) and is available as Digipak CD, gatefold 2LP, as well as 60-page 2CD book edition (hardcover, 18x18cm) with expanded artwork and audio commentary from Andy Schmidt.

In autumn 2019, German progressive metal innovators Disillusion returned with "The Liberation", making many a critic and fan’s best-of lists at the end of the year and following up with an equally successful row of concerts across Europe.

This fantastic comeback would not have been possible without fan support via the band's Patreon campaign. There, patrons received the bonus track 'Between', which “feels like a hymn to honesty and hope in the face of uncertainty, a world of anxiety, changes and new beginnings,” Schmidt says. “We want to share a feeling of trust, the notion of a silver lining to the dark clouds we are seeing."

Eventually, ‘Between’ was just too good to remain unavailable to the majority - so here it is in classic 7" single format (limited to 500 copies) to shorten the wait for Disillusions fourth full-length, which is already in the making! The b-side features the video edit of ‘Time To Let Go’ from “The Liberation”, which is herewith released on a physical product for the first time.
