CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE are one of these extremely rare musical gems that are hard to categorise. The Italians defy all expectations and transcend the usual conventions about formats, style, and how to generally compose and perform music. With the sixth studio album "Atalanta Fugiens" ("Atalanta Fleeing"), CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE return to what might be dubbed their 'classic style', which means a strong set of percussion from the rhythm section with light touches of the keyboards achieving a perfect balance with the soaring melodies performed by all vocalists consisting of the wonderful sopranos Carmen, Chiara, and Desirée in the lead as well as harmonious choirs. The Italian ensemble's often rather martial rhythms are accompanied by high-impact melodies built on ancient scales. Two harpsichords, bass viola, and the recurring presence of disturbing sounds, the unconventional manipulation of reverb and delay as well as the use of noise, all aim to create a sound that touches both the heavenly and the infernal. It goes without saying that such carefully crafted music with a strong vocal focus is perfectly reflected in fascinating and well-researched lyrics. The album title "Atalanta Fugiens" refers to an eponymous volume that was released at the beginning of the early modern period in 1617. Written by the German physician and alchemist Michael Maier, this emblem book contains 50 discourses with illustrations by Matthias Merian, each of which is accompanied by an epigrammatic verse, prose, and a musical fugue. After studying the enigmatic book for more than ten years, CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE composed entirely new music for a selection of emblems starting with the first and ending with the last. CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE were established in Milan, Italy in 1994 as an ensemble, which also gave the band their name as it literally means a 'group of chamber musicians from Milan' – using the ancient Latin name of the city. As a primus inter pares, classically educated composer Elena Previdi has always written most of the music. Not all members of the ensemble come from a classical background. Mostly post-punk, wave, and even traditional music have also played an important part in the band's musical DNA. Over the last three decades, CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE have built an impressive reputation for highly original albums and outstanding concerts that attract connoisseurs and music lovers from widely different scenes. Often viewed as an amalgamation of neo classic and dark wave, the Italians span a much wider range of styles and forms of expression. With "Atalanta Fugiens", CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE carry the immense weight and strength of 30 years of creating a unique musical experience way up high to a new shining pinnacle.
Italian music collective's fourth album

Ever since its foundation in 1994, Italian collective Camerata Mediolanense merges Wave and Post Punk with the musical spirit of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, not shying away from experimentation. Although they have been received mainly within the neoclassical and neofolk spheres, professional composer and musicologist Elena Previdi and her entourage cover a wide area, ranging from traditional songs across archaic rhythmic parts to electronic elements, all of which make it hard to categorize the three studio albums, multiple singles, and EPs Camerata Mediolanense has issued so far.

After five years in the making, Camerata Mediolanense's fourth album "Vertute, Honor, Bellezza" (English: "Virtue, Honour, Beauty") is finished now. With the new album the band continues to proceed on its path, mixing archaic, traditional and tribalistic music with experimental and electronic sounds.
The album is the centrepiece of Camerata Mediolanense's "Petrarca project," which is conceptually based on the poetry of 14th century scholar, poet, and humanist Francesco Petrarca, one of the fathers of Italian language and literature. The project was initiated by the CD single "99 Altri Perfecti" (2011) and is closed by the CD single "Vergine Bella," which are both included in the art-book edition of "Vertute, Honor, Bellezza."

Camerata Mediolanense is an ensemble of Italian musicians who gained recognition in the Neofolk/Neoclassical scenes by blending darkwave and post-punk with the musical spirit of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The group was born in Milan in 1994, founded by harpsichordist/musicologist Elena Previdi. Literally translated as "a group of chamber musicians from Milano", Camerata Mediolanense is renowned for creating music according to the traditions and history of Italy and Europe's classical and folk music, and by using sublime voices, martial percussions, keyboards and electronic devices.

With its new album, "Le Vergini Folli" (english: "The Foolish Virgins"), Camerata Mediolanense has created a dense, lush work that places the piano in the foreground and uses a strict musical language of tonal harmony which is out of fashion nowadays and thus immerses the listener in the sounds of centuries past. Guided by the pure beauty of simple melodies, channeled through love songs, and interpreted by enchanting female voices, "Le Vergini Folli" is unique to the band's discography in that the album is devoid of percussion, driven primarily by the captivating interplay of vocals and vintage pianos that date back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Lyrically, the gaze of Camerata Mediolanense remains focused on the artistic and aesthetic achievements of the past. Six of the song lyrics are poems from "forgotten literature" written by Italian women of the past and two taken from Italian poet Petrarch (1304-1374), considered one of the greatest love poets of world literature and the founder of humanism (Camerata Mediolanense dedicated their entire previous album, "Vertute, Honor, Bellezza", to his works).

Unlike all of the group's previous works, which are deliberately organized into a specific sequence, the band invites listeners to freely change the order of the tracks on "Le Vergini Folli" to enhance and diversify the experience. Release your mind and unlock the inner secrets of Camerata Mediolanense!
