Founded in 1994, French pagan folk stalwarts Stille Volk have established a style of acoustic music with occasionally opulent arrangements and a mystic, tribal atmosphere that invokes primal pagan nature. Each release is an impressive proof that hurdy-gurdy, nyckelharpa, bagpipes, bouzouki and traditional percussion can easily create the same sonic impact as electric guitars and drums.
Originating from Occitania in the southern French Pyrenees, a region rife with myth and legend, Stille Volk celebrate their pan-European roots with songs telling stories from days of yore in the ancient language of Occitan, drawing from a plethora of cultural influences. The group ranks amongst the world's pioneers of heathen folk and helped to shape the pagan movement into the global phenomenon it is today.
